Solon urges constitutional reforms
Congressman Aniceto G. Saludo, Jr. (Lone District, Southern Leyte) recently called for urgent reforms in the Constitution.
Speaking before delegates of the 13th National Convention of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Saludo urged changing the faulty Constitution, which should not be recognized because of its faulty provisions.
According to Saludo, the government cannot keep on implementing a law that spawns flawed visions and continues to mire the nation in perpetual poverty and degradation.
“Now is the time to change our post-dictatorship transition charter. It was conceived, minted and ratified at a time when the government was shaky and unstable. It was drafted in reaction to bitter experiences and profound suffering in the benighted Marcos Era”, Saludo explained.
“We have already seen how illogical and irrelevant some of the provisions are and it is about time that we examine the really contentious issues that we must seriously consider”, Saludo argued.
“The Constitution of a nation is the continuing yardstick of a people’s maturity, patriotism, and political will in the pursuit of freedom, justice and prosperity. It is therefore imperative that the Constitution is amended to make it more responsive to our people’s needs”, Saludo said.
